We traveled “in bitcoin” before it was a thing.
Me and Rikki started “Bitcoin Explorers“ in El Salvador in 2021, then kept moving: Central America, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa. And I’m not saying this to flex. I’m saying it because the timeline is the timeline. The content exist. The story speaks for itself.
Now. El Salvador was an engagement cheat code (and everyone knows it).
The uncomfortable truth: when we posted El Salvador content, everything grew faster. Like… four times as fast.
My tweets got reposted by Bukele. I got 4000 followers in a day for this picture you see here.
Our videos about El Salvador hit 10k views while being shot like amateurs (because we were amateurs). We weren’t filmmakers. We weren’t a production studio. We were just there, documenting what we were seeing with the tools we had in the most honest possible way.
If we wanted, we could’ve turned that into a visibility machine.
We didn’t.
Because we didn’t want the easy path. We didn’t want to go where everyone goes just because it performs. We didn’t want to become a tourism brochure for an algorithm or even worse, a government.
And eventually we had to admit something most people won’t say out loud: realistic reportage takes time, money, and resources. We didn’t have enough of them to keep doing it the way we wanted...properly.
So we stepped back. I found other jobs I'm super happy with and my voice remained independent.
Now let me ask you something. genuinely.
Why do you think so many Bitcoin creators focus on El Salvador? Why do you think so many creators post about it like it’s the only place on Earth where Bitcoin exists?
Because it’s simple:
- Post a beach breakfast and you get quadruple the reposts of a normal post.
- Post a critique? You risk getting dogpiled, losing followers, losing access, losing 'opportunities.
That’s the part people don’t post.
And yes: there are people in the space who will make it personal, who will lean on social pressure, who will remind you that stepping out of line has a cost. I’ve seen and heard enough to know the incentives are real even if nobody wants to say it clearly.
The saddest part is who ends up paying for this illusion: not the insiders. Not the people doing the reposting. Not people who threaten you over tweets.
It’s the people at home:
- liking
- retweeting
- booking flights
- buying tickets
- chasing a “ Bitcoin paradise” that mostly exists in social media posts apart from a few exceptions and small communities
A lot of content creators aren’t documenting reality. They’re documenting what the algorithm and their paycheck rewards.
And at that point… what’s the difference between them and the journalists they love to hate?
Same dynamic:
- follow the narrative
- repeat what powerful people want amplified
- avoid the messy parts
- monetize the attention
Different ecosystem. Same playbook.
We didn’t want to be that. We could’ve milked it. We didn’t. Not because we’re morally superior, spare me that story.
Because it didn’t fit who we are, and it didn’t fit what we wanted to build long-term.
If I’m going to talk about Bitcoin “in the world,” I want it to be real:
- not just the pretty parts
- not just the safe parts
- not just the parts that get you reposted by the right accounts
Reality is complicated. Adoption is uneven. People are people. Politics are politics. Incentives are incentives.
And if your content never shows the trade-offs, the friction, the contradictions… then you’re not educating anyone. You’re doing marketing.
❤️ If you’re new here, read this twice: Bitcoin doesn’t need fairy tales. It needs adults.
It needs people who can handle nuance without turning it into a loyalty test.
So next time you see a creator post a perfect “Bitcoin country” shot, ask yourself:
- What are they not showing?
- What can’t they say without losing access?
- What gets rewarded here. and what gets punished?
The algorithm isn’t truth. It’s the incentive map. And most creators are just following it like obedient little tourists.

I was at the supermarket and saw something that shocked me.
A girl told her boyfriend to tell the cashier right away that he had a chocolate bar in his backpack ( brought from outside) just to avoid misunderstandings.
The cashier smiled: “No problem, as long as you told me.” Wait, WHAT???
We’ve reached a point where we have to prove our innocence in advance, as if that’s normal.
No guys, that’s not how it should be.
Privacy isn’t about “having something to hide. It’s the right not to be monitored by default.
If someone thinks I’ve committed a crime, they need to do their proof of work. investigate, verify, prove it. It’s not my job to declare myself innocent beforehand.
Same applies online:
If someone thinks I have illegal photos. they must verify. If someone thinks I’ve made a suspicious transaction, they must investigate. That takes time, energy, work, resources.
That’s literally why we pay taxes.
And if the authorities are too busy to investigate properly… then what exactly are they doing? Maybe it’s time to reassess some priorities.
The presumption of innocence isn’t just a legal rule. it’s an ethical and technological principle.
In the digital world, privacy protects honest people from being treated like criminals just for existing.
And remember: what we normalize in everyday life reflects how we behave online. If we start accepting surveillance in the supermarket, we’ll soon accept it in every corner of our digital lives.

8am. I’m waiting for the subway. Unusual for me on a Sunday morning. I look around:people dressed for hiking, work, brunch, a day trip. Everyone different, all going somewhere.
And I think: statistically, someone here has probably committed a crime.
So what should the subway do? Refuse to start? Close the doors and say: ‘Sorry, you can’t get on’? Sounds ridiculous, right?
The subway’s job is to take people from A to B. It doesn’t judge, it doesn’t ask questions. it just takes you there. It’s neutral. It’s infrastructure.
And that’s exactly how money should work too. A payment system should move value, not judge the person moving it.
But lately, those who control access to money are also deciding who deserves to use it.
You said the wrong thing? account blocked. You made an uncomfortable choice? access denied.
In the physical world, it sounds absurd to imagine a subway deciding who can board. In the digital world, we accept it without a fight.
And the worst part? People who rely on these shortcuts are avoiding the real work.
investigating, enforcing justice, solving real crimes. It’s easier to freeze a card ‘for security reasons’ than to go after political corruption.
Of course, those who commit crimes should be stopped by the state, through investigations, through law, through process.
But we can’t ask infrastructure to pick the “good” and the “bad.” Once it starts doing that, it’s no longer safety. it’s control. And control never ends well.
It’s like if a train stopped working because the driver didn’t like where you were going. Or because you once posted a tweet he disagreed with.
Every time we ask for more control, more sanctions, more rules, we’re wishing (even without realizing it) for a world where a train stops because you posted a joke on Instagram.
And with things like Chat Control or the digital euro, it’ll only get worse: a system even more ‘efficient’ at judging, punishing, and deciding who’s allowed to move and who isn’t.
It sounds extreme, but maybe it should be our daily concern. Because if we hate injustice today, imagine not being able to have a bank account tomorrow because of one.

Sometimes, it’s all about a pen.
The other day, after work, I went to the beach. I brought everything: towel, sand mat, fruit, water, my beach pillow, and my crossword booklet.
Usually, I take a quick swim, then I do 30–40 minutes of crosswords. Then I head back home. Nice, right?
So. I lay everything out: mat, towel, myself. I reach for the pen andwait. No pen.
No pen?!
Now, I’m not trying to be dramatic, but the whole plan was based on that pen. How do I do the crossword with no pen? I remember I used it the night before to write in my agenda and didn't put it back. 😭
What now? Go back home? But I know myself. If I go back, I won’t come back.
So I stay. But I’m annoyed (no, I don’t want to use my phone. I work online all day, I don't want to stare at a screen on the beach too).
I keep looking. And I find it! not my pen, but a pen. One that had already been left there (the beauty of being messy!)
That one pen unlocked everything I had prepared. Without it, the whole setup was kinda useless.
It made me think about tech. About tools.
Sometimes, you have everything. But you’re missing just one tiny piece. And you don’t even realize it... until you do.
Sometimes, “the pen” is a computer.
Sometimes it’s a skill.
Sometimes it’s a website.
Sometimes it’s a Bitcoin account.
Small things unlock big moves. Don’t underestimate what one tool can do.
You have no idea how many entrepreneurs are stuck because their payment system sucks.
How many people think they’re not successful... just because they’re selling their services in their hometown instead of to the world.
You don’t know how powerful your skills could be in the digital world.
You don’t need a massive library. Sometimes, all you need is a pen.
Or an account. Or an idea.

Sometimes it feels like we’re losing a war without even realizing it.
In the Middle Ages, cities built walls to defend themselves, to keep out those who wanted to enter and plunder. Those walls were the boundary between security and vulnerability.
Today, the boundaries have shifted into the digital space. But instead of building walls, we are the ones literally opening the doors.
We hand over the keys voluntarily, giving away all our information just to have Alexa read us the horoscope or an app to entertain the cat.
This war is no longer fought with weapons, but with data and information. And not only are we fighting it defenseless, we don’t even realize it’s happening because we still haven’t understood that privacy is our new wall.

People don’t buy bitcoin. They buy what it makes possible.
- More time: no more hours wasted at the bank or waiting for a bank transfer.
- Less pain : no frozen accounts, no begging for withdrawals.
- Extra income: sats that grow in value over time.
- Lower costs: no hidden fees or absurd commissions.
- Love/ attention: being part of a community that gets it and, why not, finding good opportunities.
- Praise / validation: the pride of taking control of your money.
- Comfort: knowing your wealth is safe from inflation.
- Better health: less stress about your finances.
- Less effort: send and receive money in seconds, globally.
- Higher status: early adopter of the hardest money ever made.
When talking about Bitcoin, hit even one of these, and Bitcoin wins. Miss all, and it’s just a ‘ponzi scheme’.

Where do we draw the line in open source?
In 5 years of working in Bitcoin, there’s one thing I see everyday: people repost graphics but first, they remove your logo.
I used to get annoyed when people did it. Now I’m mostly flattered. But still.
Bitcoiners: we fight for transparency, honesty, and strong incentives… so if someone or a company shares something you like, keeping their logo is the least you can do:)

Propaganda I’m NOT falling for, as a Bitcoiner:
1. Political saviorism. I don’t believe in politicians. Left, right, they’re all playing the same game. Flirting with state power goes against the values of Bitcoin. You can’t vote your way into freedom.
2. 'Tradwife' isn’t cool. Middle/low class women weren’t happy, they were broke & dependent. Rich housewives were always the exception. If you can’t leave it’s not love, it’s a trap. Bitcoin = real choices for everyone.
3. HODL until you die. No thanks. I’m here for freedom, not for another religion. Bitcoin is a tool. Use it to live well, not just to cope. Spend it, enjoy it, build with it.
4. Extreme purity culture. Yes, I care about security. But I also live in the real world. I won’t die if I buy a coffee with a custodial wallet. Tradeoffs are fine if you are free to choose them.
5. Cut everyone off. I won’t 'divorce' my friends and family because they don’t get it. They are free to stay out. I am free to stay close. One day, they might ask. I’ll be there. Love > ego
6. “Bitcoin fixes everything”. No, it doesn’t. That’s a childish take. Bitcoin is powerful, but it’s not magic. It won’t fix your relationship, your bad diet or your ego. It gives you tools... not a personality.
Fix yourself. Then use Bitcoin to build better.

We’re not ready for Bitcoin yet. And that’s okay. We know that already.
Yesterday, still half-asleep from vacation, I went grocery shopping and as usual, I wanted to pay in Bitcoin. I get my Bitrefill gift card while standing inside the supermarket, feeling proud and ready.
Everything goes smooth… until PANIC.
Power goes out in the info office (the one that exchange the Bitrefill code with the physical gift cards), the computer won’t start, the staff starts freaking out.
I quietly put the frozen stuff back so it doesn’t melt. I keep shopping. 30 minutes go by.
I go back to the desk... still broken.Another 30 minutes. Nothing.
I’m there, half zen (half not), thinking: why the f*** do I even bother?
In the end… I paid in euros. 🙃
Bitcoin is perfect. Everything around it? Often not. Fragile infrastructure, outdated systems, people who lose it the second something goes off-script.
Same old story with every new technology: the invention works great, it’s the world around it that lags behind.
And still, we keep going. Because we know where we’re headed.
And every time it feels “too complicated” or like “you’re not ready,” remind yourself: it’s not you. It's not Bitcoin. It’s the world that has to catch up.

Bitcoin is not nostalgia. It's a clean break.
There’s this toxic idea floating around our circle, that Bitcoin is bringing us back to a romanticized past. To this pre-modern era where everything was in its place. That Bitcoin is 'anti-system' in the worst possible way.
Wake up. We’re not going back.
The world is in constant motion. Evolution doesn’t hit rewind. There’s nothing in the past that works better than a technology that lets you send and own your money, anywhere in the world, without asking permission.
Innovation is inevitable.
And those clinging to the past are only doing it because they’re terrified of losing the power they’ve built in the present.
But. Bitcoin isn’t a culture war. It’s not woke. It’s not conservative. It’s a protocol. An opportunity. A tool.
While they argue on podcasts about who’s ideologically pure, out here people are sending money, saving it, working, surviving, thriving. In the most unpredictable ways.
They’re the ones changing the world. And if you don’t see it, it’s not because you’re ahead, it’s because you’re already left behind. You're old stuff, you're gone.
Bitcoin is progress. the internet is progress. Technology doesn’t exist to keep you comfortable, it exists to shake you out of your seat.
Bitcoin won’t take us back. Fuck the cult of the past. Fuck your obsession with control over people, over ideas, even over how Bitcoin 'should' be used.
And if you’re not scared of Bitcoin yet, you haven’t understood what uncensorable money actually unlocks.
It’s still early. But those who get it are already moving.
Bitcoin is digital freedom. And Bitcoin doesn’t care what you think.
